He holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of Oxford and teaches at the University of Aveiro (UA).
Since 2024, he has been the coordinator of the Research department at the Foundation and a scientific adviser to the Institutions department.
He was a visiting professor at Georgetown and Brown Universities in the United States in 2015 and 2022, and served as president of the Portuguese Political Science Association between 2016 and 2021.
A specialist in Portuguese and comparative politics, he has focused primarily on the study of political institutions and party systems, political communication and electoral behaviour in Portugal.
In 2017, he published «Parties and Party Systems», an essay for Fundação Francisco Manuel dos Santos.

An economist and Associate Professor at the Higher Institute of Economics and Management (ISEG). He is a consultant at the National Statistics Institute (INE) in the area of household statistics.
His research focuses on microeconomics, income distribution, poverty and inequality, and public policy evaluation. He is the author of several studies on poverty and inequality in Portugal, as well as on the effectiveness of social policies.
He was President of the Institute of Public Policy from 2015 to 2020. He was a member of the Coordination Committee for drawing up the National Strategy to Fight Poverty.
He holds a PhD from the Technical University of Lisbon under the supervision of Tony Atkinson (Oxford University), with the thesis «Income Distribution, Inequality and Poverty: Portugal in the 1990s».

Professor at the University of Lisbon School of Law. Visiting Professor at the Catholic University of Porto School of Law. Researcher at the Public Law Research Centre (CIDP/ICJP). She writes on several areas of public law, particularly on environmental law, administrative law and administrative procedural law. She teaches Master’s and postgraduate courses in Environmental Law, Administrative Law and Energy Law in Angola, Mozambique and Brazil. She regularly assists in training courses at the Centre for Judicial Studies.

Former Minister of the Economy and university professor for 42 years at the Lisbon School of Economics and Management (ISEG), Augusto Mateus has studied the country's economic reality and territorial inequalities.
Currently Chairman and Non-Executive Chairman of a consultancy firm he founded in 1998, he has conducted numerous studies on the factors of national growth and development.
As a researcher, he has coordinated and prepared economic analyses of city policy and business strategy for local authorities and public and private entities. The studies carried out by his office have also analysed the potential of what is known as the creative economy and creative culture for the country’s competitiveness, and have created models for evaluating and measuring this impact on regional development.
He held political office twice during the António Guterres governments, first as Secretary of State for Industry (1995-1996) and then as Minister for the Economy (1996-1997).
He has a postgraduate degree in International Economics and Human Resources Economics from the University of Paris X. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Instituto Superior de Ciências Económicas e Financeiras (ISCEF), at Universidade Técnica de Lisboa. He was born in Lisbon in 1950.

Full professor at Instituto Superior Técnico. He is president of the Institute of Systems and Computers (INESC), non-executive director at Caixa Geral de Depósitos and a researcher at INESC-ID. He is also a member of the National Council for Science, Technology and Innovation and of the Advisory Board for the European Parliament’s Science and Technology Panel.
He got his Bachelor's degree at Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) and completed his PhD at the University of California, Berkeley, in Electrical and Computer Engineering.
He has published three books, which have been translated into several languages, and hundreds of scientific and dissemination articles. He has received several awards and distinctions, including the Universidade Técnica de Lisboa / Santander prize for excellence in research in 2009.
