We expect everything of writers: unknown universes, surprising characters, unexpected endings. They look at the world, transform reality and transform us. But what work is this, made of words? How are books born? What’s this about inspiration? Is writing so different from planting seeds, sculpting or designing roads? Is it worth going on when it seems that literature won’t survive?
We went to the homes of 11 Portuguese writers and didn’t leave until we knew how these things that make us dream, be afraid, question and change our lives happen: books and literature. The writers interviewed are Afonso Cruz, Álvaro Magalhães, António Cabrita, António Mega Ferreira, Catarina Sobral, Helder Macedo, Luis Quintais, Mário de Carvalho, Miguel Real, Paulo José Miranda and Patrícia Portela.
