British writer and historian. He studied Military History and served as an officer before leaving the army to write after five years.
He has published four novels and thirteen non-fiction books. His work is published in 34 foreign languages and has sold over eight and a half million copies. He is a member of the Royal Society of Literature and the Royal Historical Society.
He was a professor at the University of Cambridge, Birkbeck College and the University of Kent. In 2014, he won the Pritzker Literature Award for Lifetime Achievement in Military Writing, presented by the Military Museum and Pritzker Library and the Norton Medlicott Medal for Service to History in 2016. In 2017, he was knighted on the New Year’s Honour List.

She was president of the Eastern Division of the American Philosophical Association and won the Ernst Bloch Award in 2009 for her contributions to cultural dialogue in a global civilisation. She received honorary degrees from the Humanistic University of Utrecht, the University of Valencia, the University of Bogazici in Istanbul and the University of Geneva. Her books have been translated into more than 10 languages.

He is Professor at New York University School of Law. He researches and writes on jurisprudence and political theory. He has published articles and books on theories of rights, constitutionalism, the rule of law, democracy, judicial review, property, torture, security and homelessness, as well as historical political theory (Aristotle, Thomas Hobbes, John Locke, Jeremy Bentham, John Stuart Mill and Hannah Arendt).
