Investing in Science
The importance of investment in science for the development of the country is the subject of this book. The goal of investing 3% of the GDP gives you an idea of the work that has to be done, bearing in mind and size and wealth of our country. Since 1988, Portugal has been trying to hit this target and the progress made is undeniable. The public policies in science that pursue that goal have rules and regulations that set them apart, such as the requirement for assessment according to international criteria and the assurance of balanced development in all scientific areas.
This book emphasises the importance of public investment, scientific autonomy and support for all scientific areas in order to guarantee a balanced and sustainable scientific system. In particular, it recognises the contribution of universities to the production of knowledge.
