Nuno Valério holds a PhD in Economics from Universidade Técnica de Lisboa and is a full professor at the Lisbon School of Economics and Management (ISEG).
He was the Chair of the Portuguese Association of Economic and Social History, Chair of the Governing Board of the Lisbon School of Economics and Management, editor of the Economic Studies journal, Chair of the ESTER European network of PhDs in Economic and Social History, president of the Portuguese Association for the History of International Relations, and editor of the Journal of Economic and Social History. He was also on the board of the Association of Economists, the Economic and Social Council and the Academic Advisory Council of the European Association for Banking and Financial History.
He has written several articles and books on the history of Portugal and the history and theory of economic development and coordinated the publication of a collection of Portuguese Historical Statistics (Statistics Portugal).
