She is a researcher at the Centre for Research in Anthropology (CREA), a professor at the University of Minho and editor of «Ethnográfica» magazine. She has a PhD in Anthropology, with aggregation in Sociology, and was awarded the Sedas Nunes Prize for Social Sciences for her research on prisons, punishment and the drug economy. She has also studied the relationships between criminal justice, social inequalities and cultural differences.
