Bio
Retired physician and university professor.
He holds a PhD in Nuclear Medicine and is an adjunct professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Coimbra (FMUC), in addition to serving as Head of Service, Head of Department and Clinical Director at the University Hospitals of Coimbra (HUC).
From 2000 to 2005 and again from 2019 to 2021, he chaired the HUC Ethics Committees, in addition to chairing the FMUC Ethics Committee from 2010 to 2021.
He coordinated the H2 Project — Humanising the Hospital from 2018 to 2021. Furthermore, he currently coordinates the civic movement Humanising Healthcare (based in Coimbra) and volunteers with the Portuguese League Against Cancer, as well as serving as a member of the National Commission for the Humanisation of Healthcare in the National Health Service (SNS) and Patient Ombudsman at the Local Health Unit of Coimbra.
