Bio
He has a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and Economics (with distinction) from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, and a Master's degree and a PhD in Economics from the University of Cambridge. He is currently an Associate Professor (on leave) at the University of Lisbon Higher Institute of Economics and Management (ISEG) and a research fellow at the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR). He is a member of the Unit for Studies on Complexity in Economics (UECE) and the Research in Economics and Mathematics (REM) consortium, both at ISEG. Previously, he was a senior economist in the research department of the International Monetary Fund (IMF). His research work has been published in leading academic journals and cited in public presentations by prominent policymakers, as well as in renowned newspapers and magazines such as The Economist, the Dow Jones News, the Financial Times, the Washington Post, the Herald Tribune, the Wall Street Journal, Time Magazine, Valor Econômico and the Expresso. With Maurice Obstfeld, he co-edited the book "Meeting Globalisation's Challenges", published by Princeton University Press in 2019.
