The Tagus, A religious and cultural cruise

In may each year, Our Lady of the Avieiros and the Tagus travels 325 kilometres along the river, on the Tagus Religious and Cultural Cruise. The statue was designed by the riverside communities and has been recognised by the Catholic Church. The cruise also marks the arts, know-how and culture of the Avieiros fishermen from Vieira Beach in Vieira de Leiria.
This book tells the story of crossing these different Taguses, from the interior border area, still in Spain, to Oeiras, in celebration of bringing riverbanks and identities closer together, from the Avieiros to the campinos, from seafarers to the Tagus boat crews. Through statements, landscapes, delicacies, dances and song, a profile is drawn of the past and the present of the river and the struggle to ensure that those who made it their home and their sustenance will not to be forgotten.
