Bio
Professor of Political Science and a member of the Research Unit on Governance, Competitiveness and Public Policy at the University of Aveiro, where he currently holds the position of Pro-Rector for Regional Development and Urban Policies.
He was President of the European Urban Research Association from 2021 to 2025 and he is a member of the steering committee for the ECPR (European Consortium for Political Research) Standing Group on Local Government and Politics.
He is also a member of the Urban Research & Practice editorial board and editor of the Palgrave Studies in Sub-national Governance series.
He works regularly as a consultant for the OECD and the World Bank on governance and decentralisation issues.
