Bio
An economist, he is an associate professor at the Lisbon School of Economics and Management (ISEG). He is a consultant at the National Statistics Institute (INE) in the area of household statistics.
His research focuses on microeconomics, income distribution, poverty and inequality, and public policy evaluation. He has written several studies on poverty and inequality in Portugal, as well as on the effectiveness of social policies.
He was President of the Institute of Public Policy from 2015 to 2020. He was a member of the Coordination Committee for the preparation of the National Strategy to Combat Poverty.
He holds a PhD from Universidade Técnica de Lisboa under the supervision of Tony Atkinson (Oxford University), with the thesis "Income Distribution, Inequality and Poverty: Portugal in the 1990s".
