Full Professor at the Instituto Superior Técnico, University of Lisbon, where he is Chairman of the Department of Engineering and Management. He was a Full Professor at Brunel Business School, Brunel University London, between 2013 and 2015.
Between 2010 and 2012 he was President of the Centre for Management Studies at Instituto Superior Técnico (COG-IST), where he is currently affiliated. Between 2004 and 2009, he was Research Professor at the Max Planck Institute of Economics, Germany. He has been editor of the scientific journal Small Business Economics (Springer Nature) since 2005. His research interests focus on Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Regional Development and Industrial Market Dynamics.
