About Death and Dying
No. 35 MAY 2013
This text deals mainly with the process of dying and not so much with the actual death itself. Thus, after a brief review of the history of beliefs and attitudes towards death over the centuries, special attention is given to the current way of dying in Portugal, with the gradual move from dying at home to dying in hospital. Palliative care, pain, loss and suffering, living wills, assisted dying and euthanasia, spirituality, faith and notions of “the art of dying” and a good death are topics addressed from the perspective of a personal approach and proposal.
