Researcher at the Centre for Management Studies at the Instituto Superior Técnico (CEG-IST) and IN+ and Professor at the Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) of the University of Lisbon, where he has taught macroeconomics, microeconomics, economics, management and quantitative research methods.
He holds a doctorate with distinction in engineering and management and a master's degree in industrial engineering and management. He has researched labour economics, especially the relationship between technology and human capital, as well as various aspects of labour market segmentation.
