Porto, Last Station

No. 26 SEPTEMBER 2017

Many Portuguese people may not know, but Campanhã is more than the name of the station: it means the periphery, poverty and precariousness. In the most eastern parish in the city, some of its 32,000 inhabitants live a life with different rules. Money is scarce, houses are not always worthy of the name. But this Porto that the tourist wave forgets is also pointed to as the stage for the reinvention of the city. We dove into one of the most problematic neighbourhoods in the parish with a social worker who has become an activist. We walked along Miraflor, the model street where change happens. We met a man who was born in the station. Porto, Last Station looks at this and other lives of people who want to see changes in Campanhã.
