Late Adoption
No. 54 MAY 2021
There is evidence: according to recent data, there are seven times more candidates for adoption in Portugal than children that can be adopted. Even so, the number of children and young people growing up in children’s homes is high. Why? This book addresses the enormous disparity between the age of children people want to adopt and the characteristics of the children that can be adopted. Triggered by a number of conversations with families who adopted children aged seven or older, this book seeks to demystify the supposed added difficulties of late adoptions. Above all, it aims to help parents and adoptive parents to get to know the reality better, contradicting both the catastrophist myths and an idyllic family idea.
