Climate Change
No. 111 MAY 2021
Climate change is a reality and a concern for every contemporary citizen. But can we understand what is going on and contribute to its mitigation in an enlightened way? This essay is a summary of the current scientific knowledge about climate change derived from human action and the responses and the challenges it poses today and in the future. Climate change is simply and strictly explained, with clarification of the basics of meteorology, climatology and energy balance in the atmosphere. It also shows that climate change is mainly the result of global dependence on fossil fuels, the increase in which generates a growing risk. And it raises an alert: to ensure the sustainability of human civilisation, the Sustainable Development Goals must be met, including decarbonisation of the world economy.
Book recommended by the National Reading Plan.
