He was director-general of the International Organization for Migration — a UN agency — between 2017 and 2023.

As senior EU analyst, she is responsible for developing Crisis Group’s advocacy strategies and liaising with EU and member state officials. She advises on EU policy and produces research and analysis on EU foreign and security policy related to conflict prevention, mitigation and resolution.

Lucio Pench is a non-resident fellow at Bruegel. He was director for macroeconomic policies in the European Commission from 2011 to 2023. In particular, he was responsible for the elaboration of the Commission position on the design of the framework for the EU surveillance of budgetary policies, including in relation to national frameworks and the long-term sustainability of public finances, and the monitoring of macro-fiscal issues, including in relation to monetary policy. Having joined in 1989, prior to his appointment as director Mr Pench held a number of positions in the Commission, mainly in the field of macroeconomic policies, including a stint in the group of the President’s policy advisors. His research interests focus on issues of economic governance, particularly in the context of European integration, from a macroeconomic and institutional perspective. An Italian citizen, Mr Pench holds degrees from the University of Pisa and the Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies in Pisa as well as a master’s degree from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University.

Paola Tamma is a reporter covering the EU economy. She joined POLITICO in 2018 writing on climate and energy. Prior to joining Politico, she worked for the Brussels-based media Euractiv, and spent some time at The New Arab, the Guardian data team and was the London correspondent for the Italian Radio Popolare, where she covered terrorist attacks in London and Manchester.
She holds a master in International Relations from the University of Edinburgh and Sciences Po Paris, and graduated in investigative journalism from City University of London in 2017. Born in Italy, she lived in Australia, France, the UK, and now calls Brussels home.

Philippe Martin (1966-2023) was the dean of the school of public affairs at Sciences Po and professor at the department of economics.
He was vice president and research fellow at the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR).
From 2018 to 2022, Martin was chairman of the Council of Economic Analysis attached to the prime minister and the minister of economy and finance.
From 2015 to 2016, he was the economic advisor to Emmanuel Macron, minister of economy, industry and digital affairs. From 2008 to 2013, he served as the chair of the economics department at Sciences Po and from 2000 to 2008 he was also a professor at the Paris School of Economics as well as at the Graduate Institute in Geneva. Before that, Martin worked as an economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. He is a graduate of Sciences Po, the University of Paris-Dauphine and holds a PhD in economics from Georgetown University, Washington DC.
