He is considered one of the pioneers in alerting to the risks of globalisation in his book «Has Globalisation Gone Too Far?». His «Trilemma of Globalisation» is now a key reference in the discussion on the world economy of the future. He was awarded the Princess of Asturias Award for Social Sciences in 2020.
