In recent decades, sexuality has been one of the main axes of change in Portuguese society. This book intends to paint a portrait of these transformations, identifying continuity and breaks with the past and characterising a present where sexuality and sex take on new meanings.
The liberation of women and the revolution brought about by the contraceptive pill, the questioning of traditional male domination and the emergence of struggles for the rights of non-heterosexual people impose a more plural redefinition of sexuality.
This essay aims to contribute to critical reflection on the «sexual revolution» that began in the second half of the 20th century, proposing that, along with greater freedom and the pursuit of pleasure, new rules of domination and other forms of control are plain to be seen nowadays. Only in this way can we understand the dilemmas of contemporary sexuality.
