There is a lot of talk about freedom in Education, about autonomy of choices, accountability of teachers, strict assessment of learning and a whole range of ideas and concepts that seem natural, indisputable, irrefutable. But do we all have the same understanding of what freedom is? Are we aware of its consequences when put into practice without regulation? From the classroom to the educational system as a whole? This essay seeks to contribute to the debate on issues that are more in vogue, such as freedom of choice and autonomy in the management of schools, but also of older issues such as pedagogical freedom, learning and teaching, not forgetting education as a space for creating the freedom that is always at the root of critical thinking and change.
