Bio
Rosado Fernandes was born in Lisbon in 1934. He graduated in Classical Philology in 1956 and later obtained his PhD in Classical Philology. He is a member of the Academia das Ciências de Lisboa and Visiting Professor of the Gulbenkian Chair and Seminar at Queens College of City University of New York. He was Professor of Classical Literature and Languages at Faculdade de Letras de Lisboa until 1979; Full Professor of the same subjects, from 1979 to 1983; Dean of the Universidade Clássica de Lisboa from 1983 to 1994; member of the European Parliament for CDS-PP, from 1994 to 2001; member of the Portuguese parliament; founder of the Confederation of Portuguese Farmers (CAP) in 1974, and president of the same institution from 1984 to 1996. He has been in the agriculture business since 1968. He was awarded the Grã-Cruz da Ordem do Infante D.Henrique and the Grã-Cruz da Ordem do Mérito Agrícola. He is the author of a number of articles published in Portuguese and foreign magazines, which are collected in 2 volumes entitled Em Busca das Raízes do Ocidente (Lisbon, Alcalá, 2006); "Plínio e André de Resende", last volume of Euphrosyne; Memórias de um Rústico Erudito, Viagem à Volta de Lentes, Terras e Políticos (Lisbon, Cotovia, 2006); Em Defesa da Iniciativa Privada – 30 Anos de Luta contra a Tirania (Lisbon, CAP, 2006).
