Full Professor at the Nova School of Business and Economics (Nova SBE) and holder of the BPI | "la Caixa" Foundation Chair in Responsible Finance.

He is also President of the Scientific Council and Dean of Faculty and Research at Nova SBE. He is a research associate at the European Corporate Governance Institute (ECGI) and the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR). He has a PhD in Finance from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, a Master’s degree in Economics from Nova University Lisbon and a Bachelor’s degree in Management from ISCTE-IUL.

His research areas are corporate finance, corporate governance and asset management and his work has been published in international academic journals including the Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial Economics, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Review of Finance and Review of Financial Studies. He has received several grants and research awards from international and national organisations including the European Research Council (ERC) and the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT). He currently teaches corporate finance in undergraduate programmes. He also has extensive experience as a trainer in executive training programmes, legal expert and consultant to companies, banks and international government agencies.
