Founder of NEWES, New Energy Solutions. Visiting professor at the MIT-Portugal programme. Former president of the Regulatory Authority for the Energy Sector (ERSE). And electrotechnical engineer, he got his Bachelor's degree from the University of Porto and his PhD from the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg.

Director of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research, Professor at the Institute of Earth and Environmental Sciences at the University of Potsdam and Professor of Global Sustainability and Aquatic Systems at Stockholm University.
He gained international recognition for developing the concept of “planetary barriers”, which has become the paradigm of sustainability science. He received the prestigious Advanced Grant from the European Research Council (ERC) and was considered one of the most influential and cited scientists in the world by Clarivate Analytics.
He founded the Stockholm Resilience Centre and was Executive Director of the Stockholm Environment Institute. He holds a PhD in Natural Resource Management from Stockholm University, a Master’s degree in Science and an undergraduate degree in Philosophy.
He was awarded the Climate Change Award (2020) by Prince Albert II of Monaco, the Hillary Laureate (2017), the knighthood of the French National Order of the Legion of Honor (2016), the German Environmental Prize (2015) and the Cosmos Prize (2015).

João Ferrão
Born in 1952. Degree in geography, from the Faculty of Letters, UL and a PhD from UL in Human Geography. As a researcher at the Institute of Social Sciences of the University of Lisbon, he coordinated the «Environment, Territory and Society» Research Group and the ICS-UL Observatories Council.

Joana Lobo Antunes
Science communicator. Currently in charge of communication at the Instituto Superior Técnico and Lecturer at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities on the Master's Degree in Science Communication. She is also one of the coordinators of the radio programme 90 Seconds of Science. She was in charge of the Communication Office at the Institute of Chemical and Biological Technology ITQB NOVA, Director of the Live Science Centre in Sintra and Post-Doctoral Researcher in Promotion and Administration of Science and Technology at FCSH and ITQB NOVA.

He is currently executive administrator of the Oceano Azul Foundation. He was an advisor on issues related to the Environment, Science and the Sea for the President of Portugal. He was a member of the Office of the European Commissioner for Maritime Affairs (2004-2010), working as Coordinator at the European Commission for the development of the new EU Integrated Maritime Policy. He was appointed Coordinator of the Strategic Oceans Commission in 2002. Between 1997 and 2002, he was an Advisor at the Permanent Mission of Portugal to the United Nations, in charge of ocean affairs, and represented the EU at the United Nations General Assembly for Ocean Affairs during the Portuguese and French Presidencies of the EU in 2000.
He was awarded the Pessoa Prize 2021 and he received the European Citizen Award from the European Parliament for his work in promoting ocean governance in the United Nations, the European Union and Portugal in 2016.

He has a PhD in Biochemistry from Nova University Lisbon (UNL), and has devoted himself to science communication for 27 years. Between 2015 and 2019, he managed Ciência Viva – National Agency for Scientific and Technological Culture, whose mission is to promote experimental science education and scientific dissemination. During these four years he also coordinated the GPS – Global Portuguese Scientists – project, a social media network that tells us where Portuguese scientists emigrated to and the type of scientific research they are doing outside Portugal. He wrote books such as «Pseudoscience» and «Portuguese Scientists», both published by Fundação Francisco Manuel dos Santos. He has created several plays and television programmes on scientific topics. He won the «Young Chemicals» and «Green Ideas» awards in 2010. He was the author of Public Enemy and a science journalist at the Público newspaper, a publication he continues to work with as a columnist. He is co-commissioner of the Science and Education Month for Fundação Francisco Manuel dos Santos.

Augusto Mateus
Former Minister of the Economy and university professor for 42 years at the Lisbon School of Economics and Management (ISEG), Augusto Mateus has studied the country's economic reality and territorial inequalities.
Currently Chairman and Non-Executive Chairman of a consultancy firm he founded in 1998, he has conducted numerous studies on the factors of national growth and development.
As a researcher, he has coordinated and prepared economic analyses of city policy and business strategy for local authorities and public and private entities. The studies carried out by his office have also analysed the potential of what is known as the creative economy and creative culture for the country’s competitiveness, and have created models for evaluating and measuring this impact on regional development.
He held political office twice during the António Guterres governments, first as Secretary of State for Industry (1995-1996) and then as Minister for the Economy (1996-1997).
He has a postgraduate degree in International Economics and Human Resources Economics from the University of Paris X. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Instituto Superior de Ciências Económicas e Financeiras (ISCEF), at Universidade Técnica de Lisboa. He was born in Lisbon in 1950.

Geographer, PhD in human geography and Associate Professor at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto (FAUP), where he works on the integrated master's and PhD courses.
He is also a researcher at FAUP's Centre for Architecture and Urbanism Studies (CEAU). He has published extensively, including «Transgenic Landscapes» (Landscape Museum 2021), «Tour of Portugal» (Contraponto, Lisbon, 2017), «Common Home Territory» (with N. Travasso, FAUP, Porto, 2015), «The Street of the Road» (Dafne, Porto, 2010), «Country Life» (Dafne, Porto, 2012) and «Urban Policies I and II» (with N. Portas and J. Cabral, Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, Lisbon, 2003 and 2011) and «City and Democracy» (Argumentum, Lisbon, 2006). He writes regularly for the newspaper «Público».
He has a PhD in Human Geography from the Faculty of Letters of the University of Porto.
