The Foundation met with MEPs to discuss electoral abstention
The Foundation met with MEPs in Brussels to discuss the study «Mechanisms and Impacts of Electoral Abstention in Portugal», which is currently in progress.
The purpose was to gather inputs from these parliamentarians on the causes of voter abstention and to explore strategies to combat them in the European elections. The meeting also served to present the preliminary results of the research, which will be published in 2025.
The study is coordinated by researchers João Cancela (NOVA-FCSH) and José Santana Pereira (ISCTE-IUL) and will include recommendations for public policies to bring voters closer to their representatives.
The session, organized in partnership with the offices of MEPs Marta Temido (PS/S&D) and Paulo Cunha (AD/EPP), was also attended by MEPs Paulo Nascimento Cabral (AD/EPP), Sérgio Humberto (AD/EPP), Hélder Sousa Silva (AD/EPP), João Oliveira (CDU/The Left) and Ana Vasconcelos (IL/Renew).
