Neil Lawrence live in Lisbon: Artificial intelligence, is not that simple
Neil Lawrence, professor at the University of Cambridge, will talk about the challenges of the relationship between humans and machines, and the capabilities and limitations of AI systems, in an interview of the series ‘It's not that simple’.
In this event, the expert will present his new book, «The Atomic Human: What Makes Us Unique in the Age of AI».
The event is sold out.
The interview, conducted in English, will be simultaneously translated to Portuguese.
The renowned specialist in Artificial Intelligence (IA) is the guest on this edition of the ‘It's not that simple’ series of interviews.
With over 25 years' experience in research and development of machine learning projects, Neil Lawrence will discuss the future of the relationship between humans and the technologies that are revolutionising and shaping the world.
The Deep Mind professor at the Cambridge University will analyse the power that Artificial Intelligence is already giving to some humans, namely Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg and Jeff Bezos, and assess the risks of us falling into a ‘techno-oligarchy’ at the hands of these technological giants.
At a time marked by conflicts in various parts of the world and the threat of nuclear war, Neil Lawrence will also discuss the role of AI in triggering the nuclear button: are we close to a reality in which machines decide to launch atomic weapons?
The interview will be followed by a presentation of his book 'Atomic Humanity: What Makes Us Unique in the Age of Artificial Intelligence' and a book signing.
In this book, the researcher clarifies what AI means for our identity and, by comparing human capabilities with those of machines, delves into the technical origins, capabilities and limitations of artificial intelligence systems, proposing how they should be managed.
The interview, conducted in English, will be simultaneously translated to Portuguese.
