Dan Buettner: Blue zones are not that simple

29 min
Watch episode

People who live in Blue Zones live healthier lives, often reaching their 100th birthdays. This is the case in places like Okinawa in Japan, Sardinia in Italy or Ikaria in Greece.

How do you explain the longevity of the inhabitants of these places? American Dan Buettner provides the answers in this episode of «It’s not that simple».

The author of five books on longevity and happiness, the researcher has discovered five places on the globe - which he calls Blue Zones - where people reach the age of 100 with few illnesses. He has shared this information with the world, and his works have all been bestsellers in the USA.

In addition to his work as an author, Dan Buettner works with local governments, large companies and insurance companies to create Blue Zone Projects in communities, workplaces and universities.

In this episode, Buettner looks at how our environment - what we eat, our social habits, our incentives - affects our quality of life. He also examines how family or a sense of purpose can contribute to a longer life expectancy and highlights how a «peasant diet» is an essential element for those living in a «Blue Zone».
