Italy's former Labour Minister, Elsa Fornero, was the «mother» of a reform of the country's pension system in the midst of the sovereign debt crisis.

At this conference, she spoke about Europe and the welfare state and warned that reforming social security systems in countries like Portugal and Italy is inevitable, given demographic variables and weak economic growth.
