Longevity: Economic and social challenges

60 min
Watch episode

Portugal is losing 20,000 people a year, the equivalent of a town the size of Oliveira do Hospital.
Although the Portuguese are living longer and longer, they are having fewer and fewer children, and there is a growing need for skilled immigration.

This demographic reality demands urgent adaptations to improve the well-being of the population, while also bringing with it enormous challenges for the future of the national economy. In a country where productivity remains low and public debt too high, economic growth requires innovative and sometimes disruptive solutions.

This Fundação Francisco Manuel dos Santos/RTP co-production,  reveals some of the responses already challenging Portugal to grow.
